Advice Home > Sheldon's Advice Remember the old saying: “you get what you pay for”. Hiring a disc jockey is no exception. To make sure you get the most value for your money, remember these guidelines when hiring a DJ to perform at a party, reception or corporate function.
It’s hard to beat the quality of GOOD live musicians for your party. They can turn an ordinary event into something very special and unforgettable. There are many different kings of live music that you can hire, including strolling and classical musicians, jazz trios, orchestras, Top 40 and Big Bands. Live music can be anything from a one-man band to an 18-piece Big Band. Before hiring a band to perform at your function, speak to the bandleader to discuss the details such as the number of guests attending, that the bandleader is bilingual and if there is any special music you want to hear or songs you do not want to be performed. References are always a good idea. Make sure to listen to some of their live recordings. If they don’t have any, you should think twice. If you’re still not sure about the band, try to see them in action, perhaps in a live audition or performing at someone else’s function. Should
